从文化图式看不同文本委婉语英译的归、异化取向

论文摘要

委婉语是一种普遍的文化现象，它以独特的视角反映和折射着一个民族的历史演进及其政治、经济、文化、思想意识等领域的变迁。委婉语在人们的日常生活中广泛而鲜活地使用着，并已成为汉英词汇中不可或缺的组成部分。随着跨文化交际日益频繁，委婉语的翻译势必变得越来越重要。但是目前在理论研究上，委婉语翻译没有得到应有的重视；在翻译实践上，现有材料中对委婉语的翻译也有许多不尽人意之处：在翻译委婉语的过程中，译者经常只译出了委婉语的语义内容而忽略了其包含的文化内容，造成了翻译中不应有的文化缺失。有鉴于此，本人以汉语委婉语为主要研究对象，试图从文化图式的角度分析翻译过程中不同文本委婉语英译的归化和异化取向。作者首先介绍了图式理论和莱斯的文本类型学。这两个概念是整个文章的理论支撑。图式理论是一个认知心理学上的概念。通过介绍这个概念，作者试图让读者对图式、文化图式及其在翻译研究上的重要性有所了解，并根据汉语文本的实际对莱斯的文本分类进行了细微的改动，以使得本论文的归化和异化取向分析更为合理。有些学者认为汉语委婉语翻译成英语是不可能的。因此，通过对比汉、英委婉语的定义和它们的共同特征，作者指出汉语委婉语翻译成英语是可能的，使得其后章节的讨论成为可能。最后，作者分析了不同文本中译者应该采取哪种翻译策略来主导自己的汉语委婉语翻译。通过综合分析“各文本目的，各文本语言特点，各文本中委婉语的重要性以及各文本的读者群”等因素，作者探索了在各种文本中是否应该让读者产生委婉语包含的文化所对应的图式，以及该文化图式的产生会不会影响读者的阅读连贯性。并在此基础上得出本文结论：在重内容和重呼唤文本中，译者最好采取归化的翻译策略；在重形式和新闻文本中，译者最好采取异化的翻译策略来处理文本中较重要的委婉语。总之，作者希望广大译者在翻译过程中能够重视委婉语包含的文化因素，进而忠实地翻译委婉语，达到文化交流的目的。
