跨文化视角下的隐喻翻译策略 ——异化与归化

翻译是沟通不同文化背景的民族间的桥梁。翻译不仅仅是语言的转换,更是文化信息的传递。语言的转换只是翻译的表层,而文化信息的传递才是翻译的实质。隐喻作为一种语言修辞手段,是人类的一种思维方式,更是人类对客观世界的一种认知方式,因此隐喻也被赋予了深厚的文化底蕴。由于文化因素的影响,隐喻翻译就成为翻译中最复杂的问题(纽马克,2001)。本文试图从跨文化的角度探讨隐喻的翻译。本文除了引言和结论部分,共分为三章。引言部分介绍了作者选择这一主题的意图及文章的基本框架。第一章简要回顾了语言、文化和翻译三者之间的密切关系,指出了当前翻译向文化转向的趋势。介绍了文化翻译的两种策略——异化与归化,详细阐述了异化与归化的起源和定义,以及各自的代表人物和观点。第二章从隐喻的定义入手,分析了其本质及特征,从而阐明了隐喻所蕴含的文化内涵,进一步从跨文化的角度比较了英汉隐喻的文化共性与差异。第三章探讨了文化翻译策略——异化与归化在隐喻翻译中的具体运用。本文的目的并非要讨论两种策略孰优孰劣,因为作者认为在实践中两者可交替使用;而且作者还认为在可能的情况下从文化交流的角度出发应该优先考虑使用异化策略,如有困难再用归化策略作为补充。在此原则的指导下,本文详细探讨了处理隐喻中文化因素的一些具体翻译技巧即异化策略和归化策略:其中异化策略包括:(1)保留原文中的意象和寓意;(2)保留原文中的意象并加注释。归化策略包括:(1)放弃原文意象,直接揭示其寓意;(2)用目的语中的意象替代源语中的意象;(3)放弃原语的意象和寓意。文章结论部分对全文进行总结,提出隐喻翻译是一个复杂的议题,在实践中应根据实际情况需要来选择合适的翻译策略,同时也更需要包括笔者在内的研究人员在该领域做出进一步的贡献。
