范畴化理论在大学英语词汇教学中的应用研究

众所周知,词汇在语言中起着举足轻重的作用。如果没有了词汇,语言便也失去了赖以存在的物质基础。所以对于英语学习者来说,词汇的学习就显得非常重要了,掌握一定量的词汇是学好英语的基础。但是由于大部分的老师和学生都缺乏有效的词汇教学方法,导致词汇教学出现了费时低效的局面。为了改变这一状况,本文试图把认知语言学中的范畴化理论应用到大学英语词汇教学当中并从中得到一些启示。作者想通过本研究了解我国某些非英语专业学生在英语词汇学习方面中存在的困难,并试图帮他们找到一种相对有效的词汇学习的方法及策略。本文首先采用调查问卷的形式从以下三方面对学生词汇学习状况做了一个调查:词汇学习的态度,遇到的问题,并分析了原因。然后在此基础上进行了一个实验,把范畴化理论应用到英语词汇教学中。根据范畴化的等级理论,把词汇表设计成具有一定关联的语义网络让学生来记忆,然后运用统计学工具独立样本t检验将学生按照传统无序记忆和按照语义网络记忆单词的结果进行对比。实验结果证明按照词汇语义网络记忆单词的效果远远好于传统方法。因此老师应该帮助学生建立以基本层次范畴词汇为中心并且词汇之间相互关联的语义网络。这样词汇不再是孤立的而是以一个整体的形式储存在大脑中。这种清晰的认知框架不仅能帮助学生更快的记忆大量词汇,而且还能有效降低他们的遗忘数量和速度。通过本研究,我们在词汇教学方面得到了一些启示,首先教师应该重视基本范畴词汇的教学,其次教师在教学中应该帮助学生建立词汇的语义网络并逐渐培养他们这种能力,此外在教学中可以运用语义聚合和语义切分策略。总之,学生应该在老师的帮助下综合运用各种策略积极的学习词汇,这样一定能突破词汇学习这道难关。
