从翻译规范理论的角度看林语堂《浮生六记》的英译

论文摘要

规范被广泛地应用于法学﹑社会学﹑国际关系学等社会科学的诸多领域。1963年,Ji?i Levy将“翻译”和“规范”结合起来,从而将此概念引入翻译领域。如今,翻译规范理论已成为描述翻译学研究的重要部分,其中心任务就是通过对翻译规范的描写与运用构建翻译研究理论体系,并指导翻译实践及与翻译相关的活动。作为对传统的“规约性”译论的重大突破和翻译理论的重要补充,翻译规范理论为翻译实践和研究开辟了一个描述性的﹑以目的语为导向的新视角。本文以吉迪恩·图里提出的翻译规范理论为理论框架,较全面地分析了林语堂翻译《浮生六记》的过程—从译本选取到翻译策略的确定;旨在结合具体的翻译实践,对翻译规范进行较为深入﹑客观的论证。除导言和结语外,全文由三章组成。第一章介绍了规范的概念、特点和与描述翻译研究等相关领域的关系。第二章详细阐述了翻译规范理论,讨论了翻译规范的定义﹑分类﹑性质及其在翻译研究中的优势,并将文学翻译中的策略问题纳入其框架中研究。在第三章里,作者对林语堂英译《浮生六记》时翻译规范的运作进行了深入的描述性的分析,分别讨论了预备规范与译者选择文本,起始规范﹑操作规范与译者确定翻译策略的关系。最后得出结论,林语堂的英译《浮生六记》之所以能非常成功地进入目的语文化,并为目的语读者所接受和喜爱,其文本的选定以及翻译策略的选择至关重要。为了使弱势文化的文本顺利进入处于相对强势的目的语文化中,首先,译者无论是选择文本还是确定翻译策略都不能与目的语文化的各种规范形成激烈冲突,其次还要能适当迎合目的语读者对源语文化的期待。再者,该研究也反证了翻译规范理论能够描述和解释翻译中的现象和问题,对具体的翻译实践有较强的指导意义。
