外语教学中的文化热兴起于二十世纪八十年代,它是与中国的改革开放息息相关的。但在目前的英语教学中,多数教师往往只注重语言知识的传授,而忽略了目的语国家的文化。本论文主要讨论了通过引用与课文有关的文化知识激发学生的学习动机和培养跨文化交际能力的问题。作者首先对刚刚升入职专的学生进行了文化知识问卷调查,发现学生对英语中文化知识的了解很少。在本论文中,作者将文化知识教学与布罗菲的激发学生学习动机策略相结合,从而激发学生的英语学习兴趣,培养学生的文化意识和跨文化交际能力。作者在职一年级的两个班进行了实验。一个为实验班,一个为对照班。两个班使用同样的教材。实验班运用各种方法,如多媒体课件,互联网,电影,录像,发动学生自己查找与课文有关的文化知识,激发学生的学习动机,培养他们的跨文化交际能力。经过两个学期的实验结果表明:实验班的考试成绩和学习兴趣和对照班相比有明显差异。说明通过文化知识的引入,能够激发学习者的学习动机,培养学生的文化意识和跨文化交际能力。
