英汉“喜悦”隐喻的跨文化研究

人类语言充满了各种各样的隐喻,隐喻在情感的概念化中起着重要的作用。情感作为一种人类普遍、基本的经验,一直是认知语言学研究的重点。国内外许多认知语言学学者都对隐喻中的情感隐喻做了大量研究,但是从跨文化角度对情感隐喻中的“喜悦”隐喻进行研究几乎没有过。因此,本文以认知语言学中的概念隐喻观为理论基础,从跨文化角度对英语和汉语中的“喜悦”隐喻进行了系统的研究。本文旨在通过研究英汉“喜悦”隐喻来探索文化和情感隐喻之间的关系。英语和汉语中有许多相同的关于“喜悦”的概念隐喻,如“HAPPINESS IS UP”,“HAPPINESS IS LIGHT”以及“HAPPINESS IS FLUID IN A CONTAINER”这是源于中西方人类相似的身体结构及生活经历。但是由于英汉文化背景的不同,“喜悦”情感隐喻的概念隐喻也不是一对一的关系。喜悦隐喻在不同的文化背景中也受到相应的影响。如英语中有“喜悦是离开地面”,而汉语中则用“喜悦是心中盛开的花朵”。这种差异归因于英汉民族不同的文化模型。人类的经验都发生在特定的文化背景和文化模式之中,因此,隐喻中蕴涵着丰富的文化特征。英汉“喜悦”隐喻的跨文化研究不仅为情感隐喻的认知研究提供了一个新的视角,同时也为跨文化交际的教学提供了新的视角。
