单词复现率与语境丰富度对中国英语学习者阅读中词汇知识习得的影响

人们一致认为二语学习者能够通过听或读等练习大量接触目标语从而习得二语词汇。通过阅读习得词汇知识时,单词复现率和语境丰富度被认为是影响学习者词汇知识习得的两个主要因素。但系统全面地研究单词复现率和语境丰富度影响阅读中词汇知识习得的研究相对较少,研究结果也不令人满意。因此本研究试图探讨单词复现率与语境丰富度对阅读中词汇知识习得的影响。35名英语专业二年级学生参加了本项研究。研究者选择一篇适合学习者词汇量水平的阅读短文,短文中部分词汇被替换成假词,并将这些假词加粗斜体,以引起学习者的注意。学习者阅读完文章后,紧接着完成10个词汇知识测试。一周后,取得高分、低分以及中等分数的学习者接受了研究者的访谈。研究发现如下:(a)单词复现率和语境丰富度共同对词汇知识,如拼写、词性和横组合关系的习得产生影响,但单词复现率比语境丰富度的影响更大。(b)关于词汇知识,如单词意义和纵组合关系的习得,只有语境丰富度对其产生影响,而单词复现率不起作用。出现这种结果的原因可能是本研究中采用的阅读短文篇章语境较丰富,学习者在第一次碰见一些目标词汇时,就能推断出其意义,从而导致单词复现率不起作用。(c)本研究还发现词汇知识如语法、词性等通过内隐学习即可习得,而单词意义等方面的词汇知识需通过学习者有意识地注意、加工方能成功习得,即通过外显学习习得。在外显学习的情况下,学习者的注意力越集中,习得的词汇知识越全面。(d)最后,研究还发现一些词汇出现的频率过高反而不利于单词意义的习得,尽管单词的意义并不随语境的变化而变化。基于上述研究发现,研究者就本研究结果的理论启示,教学启示以及方法论启示进行了总结。最后指出了本研究存在的不足并对后续研究提出了建议。
