论英国文学史的叙述模式 ——基于20世纪80年代以来中国学者编著的英国文学史的研究

拥有一千多年历史的英国文学佳作迭出、异彩纷呈,在世界文学领域中影响深远,其戏剧、小说和诗歌中的人物形象也为世界范围内的读者所喜爱。熟悉英国文学和文学史,对进一步研究英国文学有重要作用。读者对英国文学史的系统了解多来自于文学史著作,因此文学史的编写至为关键。用叙述的方式来展现文学史的发展过程是最为普遍和有效的方法。选择何种叙述线索不仅是如何处理具体叙述的问题,而且体现了文学史家的史观、史识和史才。中国学者编撰英国文学史已有近七十年的历史,具有中国特色的英国文学史著的叙述模式已经基本形成。本文试概括并分析20世纪80年代以来中国学者编写和出版英国文学史的基本情况,认为这些著作主要分为三大类,教科书、学术著作和普及本,且以教科书为多数。按照叙述线索和叙述侧重点的不同,本文将所有著作概括总结为四种叙述模式,即以理论观念预设为主线,以文学体裁为主线,以重要作家为主线和综合多种因素为主线的叙述模式。论文举例分析了这些叙述模式各自的特点,并通过与国外版本的比较从中挖掘中国学者在构建文学史框架时所体现的史观、撰写标准和本土意识。另外,本文还从多个角度反思了这些著作的优点和不足,并提出改进建议。在重写文学史的呼声下,某些中国学者提出了自己对英国文学史编撰的思考和看法,批评了文学史写作领域内很多作品缺乏独特视角和学术价值的现象。在教科书版本众多的情况下,读者更期望看到的是有鲜明特色和学术价值的著作。总之,多角度、多元化的叙述模式体现了中国学者在英国文学史写作方面日臻完善的叙述技巧和不断突破与创新的本土意识。对20多年来英国文学史著作的叙述模式进行研究有利于今后文学史的写作,也有利于外国文学史的学科完善和深层理论建设。
