劳伦斯《牧师的女儿们》的及物性分析

继韩礼德对威廉·戈尔丁的The Inheritors(《继承者》)的分析(1971),及物性分析模式被越来越多地运用于文体分析。实践证明,及物系统分析是揭示作品主题,挖掘美学效果强有力的工具。现今,及物性系统已经发展成为最为广泛应用的文体分析模式之一。然而,中外学界以往运用及物性系统进行的文学文体分析多聚焦于不同类型及物性过程之间的对照对揭示权势关系所起的作用;对于探讨人物思想的研究,大多揭示的为某种静态的思想风格,极少关注及物性模式选择对展现人物动态的思想转变轨迹所具有的分析价值。英国著名小说家劳伦斯的中篇小说《牧师的女儿们》以其深邃的思想和精湛的艺术被理论大师利维斯(1955)誉为其最优秀的中篇小说。小说情节简单,却具有深奥的象征意义和社会意义。劳伦斯一向以长篇小说著称,中外学者也多专注于此,较少涉足其中篇及短篇小说。有关《牧师的女儿们》的评论,大多着眼于文学角度,且聚焦于其阶级主题,而其中体现的劳伦斯的男女观鲜有提及。本文采用韩礼德的及物性分析模式,尝试从权势关系和思想转变两方面探讨《牧师的女儿们》,揭示其主题和文体意义。研究表明,及物性系统不仅可以揭露文本后的权力关系,还可以展现人物的思想转变轨迹;此外,及物性分析能够对文本做出新的解读和诠释。
