不同的文化总会孕育不同的文学巨匠,美国作家威廉·福克纳和中国作家蒲松龄就是两个文化里诞生的文学佼佼者。他们分别是文学史上”美国哥特小说”和“中国志怪小说”光荣的继承者。他们用自己独特的生活环境作为背景创作出令世人称赞的短篇小说。他们的短篇小说尽现“短”的艺术,在故事背景,故事情节,人物刻画方面短中求奇,奇中生美。他们的叙事手法更是灵活多变,不同的叙事效果与离奇的情节,独特的语言和象征,迭起的悬念以及叙事氛围都有密切关系,作者精巧的叙事手法和策略堪称一流。本文将通过他们各自的代表作(福克纳的《献给艾米丽小姐的玫瑰》和蒲松龄的《聊斋志异》),探求两部作品在创作背景,故事情节,叙事策略以及语言修辞上的异同,体现他们各自的审美特点以及艺术风格。
