关联理论视角下的科技英语翻译

论文摘要

关联理论由丹·斯珀伯和迪贝德丽·威尔逊于1986年提出,此理论属于认知语用理论,根据这一理论语言交际被认为是一种明示—推理认知过程。在关联理论的基础上,Ernst-August Gutt于1991年提出了关联翻译理论,以一个全新的角度—认知的角度来研究翻译。关联理论及关联翻译论都成为解释翻译活动和指导翻译实践的重要理论。在关联理论的框架内,翻译是一种两轮明示—推理的交际活动。第一轮涉及原作者和译者；第二轮涉及译者和译语读者。译者是连接原作者和译语读者并传递信息的媒介,扮演者双重角色。一方面,译者有义务进行恰当的认知推理,从原作者明示的信息中寻找出最佳关联,以便真正理解原作者的真实意图；另一方面,译者应把自己在推理中寻求的最佳关联通过译语读者所熟悉的心理认知模式和语言表达形式传递给译语读者。同时,翻译也是一种语际阐释活动。因此,译者应该使他的译文和原文达到最大程度的相似性,即为译文读者提供足够的语境效果,以达到和原文的最佳关联。科技英语翻译的关键因素和基准是最佳的信息传递效果、精确的内容与规范的表达。关联理论从认知心理学的角度提出语言交际是在关联原则支配下按一定推理思维规律进行的认知活动。因此,应当从能力而不是从行为的角度解释交际。在对科技英语翻译的实质进行分析的基础上,关联理论对科技英语翻译的发展给予了准确的指导。关联理论是一种解释性理论,其立论以逻辑思辨为主,它所关注的不是具体的翻译方法,而是为文体翻译提供评判标准,即：最佳关联性的传递；也为文体翻译本体论和方法论研究找到一种动态、连贯和有机的理论范式。本文结合关联理论的主要观点,分别从三个方面对关联理论在科技英语翻译中的指导给予论述,包括：关联理论对科技英语翻译本质的解释,对科技英语翻译中的典型的语法问题以及最主要的语义问题的指导。根据目前对关联翻译理论的研究成果,本文在肯定该理论指导翻译实践具有一定可行性的同时,也承认其一定的局限性,但它的确在科技翻译的重要方面具有有效的指导性,即：使科技翻译从最佳的角度达到最佳关联,恰当翻译。
