中学生英语词汇学习策略研究

在英语学习中,词汇习得占有很重要的地位。语言学家M.Mc Carthy (1984)指出:“不管一个人的语法学得多好,不管他的语言多么漂亮,但是如果他没有足够的词汇来表达他的感情或理解对方的观点和想法,他就无法用这门语言和别人交流。”语音、词汇和语法是语言的三大要素,词汇是进行任何交流的基础。词汇量的大小,直接影响着一个外语学习者的外语水平。而词汇是中学生英语学习中较为薄弱的一环。国内外学者的研究工作在词汇学习策略方面取得了很多成果,如学习策略可以分为四类:元认知策略、认知策略、记忆策略和社会情感策略(Schmitt,2002)。本文旨在研究高一学生英语词汇学习策略的使用情况,研究对象涉及江津二中高一年级4个班级的240名学生。本研究通过问卷,访谈,对他们在元认知、认知、记忆和社会情感四个层次上使用英语词汇学习策略进行了调查和研究。研究结果表明:被调查的学生基本上采用了元认知策略、认知策略、记忆策略和社会情感策略这四种词汇学习策略。在这四类词汇学习策略中,其中认知策略被使用得最频繁,使用频率略低的是记忆策略和元认知策略,而社会情感策略最不常被用到。在具体的认知策略中,学生最常用的策略包括记笔记、使用课文词汇表学单词、重复法和使用电子词典。记忆策略中较常用的有注重单词拼写,记忆策略中较少运用的策略有用故事连词、用词义表记单词、用词汇区别记单词。认知策略中运用带图片的词典或词库记单词较少被运用到。元认知策略中,运用英特网学习单词很少被用到。通过问老师或与同学交流一起学单词的社会情感策略很少被用到。最后,本文建议在外语教学中教师应该认识到词汇学习策略的重要性和学习者的个体差异性,有针对性地对学生学习策略进行指导和培训,使学生自主运用词汇学习策略,找到适合自己的学习策略。
