描述性翻译研究中的价值中立尺度

自20世纪七十年代描述性翻译研究在欧洲兴起,其核心概念,诸如对翻译学研究对象的定义、目的语导向,语境化已被任何希望把翻译学作为一门独立学科来研究的学者奉为圭臬,然而价值中立这一提法却始终备受质疑,被冠以“本质主义”/“客观主义”、“科学主义”之名,遭到“实证科学的理想化”、“工具理性”等讨伐之声。批判者们认为描述性翻译研究中提倡的价值中立乃剥离一切价值因素,是“理论上的天真”,是描述性翻译研究中“过时”、“不足信”的方面。描述性翻译研究价值中立说的首创者图里本人却表示自己并未忽视描述性翻译研究中的主观部分,只是希望研究者应该避免将太多主观成分带入讨论,但中立及客观的尺度为何却未被言明。本研究借用马克斯·韦伯人文社会研究方法论中对人文社会科学客观性及价值中立的阐述探讨描述性翻译研究价值中立的尺度。马克斯·韦伯将人文社会科学中与价值相关的概念进行区分,指出价值关联、价值解释、及理想类型中包含的价值因素是人文社会科学研究中的特点和必要的认识前提,其价值中立仅指将经验知识的陈述与价值判断,即对研究对象做正当与卑下的实际评价区分开来,将后者排除在经验科学的研究范围之外,以确保科学认识建立在经验实在而非主观的目的、理想及信仰的基础之上,而非隔离研究中的一切价值因素。将马克斯·韦伯的人文社会科学价值中立说引入描述性翻译翻译研究后,本研究发现,在描述性翻译研究中,不仅选择一定范围内的研究对象体现了价值关联,描述性翻译研究科学共同体的许多信念,例如描述性翻译研究的目的语导向,将翻译放在社会历史文化语境中去研究,都是价值关联的体现。此外,一切描述性翻译研究都无法避免在研究中运用一定的理想类型来提供因果分析的路线,必然造成观察的理论负荷和解释的片面性。以上两者均是描述性翻译研究中负载价值的主观成份,而描述性翻译研究的价值中立仅指不对研究对象(译作、译者)进行是与非,正与误的实际评价,而非隔离一切价值因素,亦非在研究中一味追求科学方法贬斥人文成份。本研究进而提出在探讨描述性翻译研究中的价值问题时应参照马克斯·韦伯的人文社会科学价值中立说将翻译研究中与价值相关的术语进行区分,避免因术语问题导致无谓争论,同时明确描述翻译研究的价值中立尺度,避免因价值中立问题造成对描述性翻译研究的误解。
